In this video , Mike Degruy describes how he became fascinated with sea life at an early age. He was especially fascinated with Octopus. I believe octopi are a beauty of the sea. They blend in with their surrounding environment and are able to hide from predators without being noticed. Their behavior is very different from other fish and creatures of the sea and not one octopus is the same.
In his video, Mike Degruy describes how he encountered a few octopi at the Waikiki Aquarium in Hawaii. He explains that when he approaches the tank, some octopus would hide in the back of the tank and some would get really close to him and "play" with him. Now when he says play, He doesn't mean playing tag, he means, if he was raising his hand, the octopus would raise one of its tentacles along with him. I find this very fascinating that octopi have the brain capacity to communicate with human in this way.
Unfortunately, Octopi numbers are decreasing in the wild due to overfishing. I think we need to help these animals get back to a stable population, so we can enjoy these animals in their natural environment, learn more about their capabilities and intelligence, and possibly even get "hooked by one."
The author of this video, Mike Degruy, was unfortunately killed by a stingray, which was very similar to the way one of my favorite childhood heroes Steve Irwin died in 2007.
